"My dear Bengaluru citizens!!!Bengaluru city is known as the garden city.Despite being a fast-growing city, we have still managed to keep our Bengaluru green and revive many lakes, thanks to the efforts of the city`s citizens and the government.Our every move determines the future of Bengaluru. Bengaluru city is at the forefront of the few cities that have a Climate Action Plan and a Climate Action Cell for climate sustainability. To further strengthen this progress and to engage the youth responsibly, we are starting Bengaluru Climate Action Clubs in all schools. I invite all schools in Bengaluru to form Bengaluru Climate Action Clubs to give students an opportunity to participate in building a green Bengaluru."
About the Climate Action Clubs
The Climate Action Club is a student-driven initiative being introduced across schools and PU colleges in Bengaluru. It encourages young students to come together, deepen their understanding of climate issues, and actively participate in sustainability efforts. Through hands-on activities, learning projects, and leadership opportunities, students are empowered to take initiative and champion environmental responsibility within their schools and communities.
"Igniting Change at the Community Level" The Bengaluru’s Climate Action Clubs is a youth-powered action — bringing schools and colleges across the city together to take action . It empowers young changemakers through education and engagement. From schools to neighborhoods, the next generation is leading impactful, community-driven environmental action. The Climate Action Clubs will lead on-campus sustainability through structured, outcome-driven activities. Clubs will conduct climate literacy drives, manage green audits, execute waste and energy management projects, and drive community-focused environmental campaigns. Monthly challenges, inter-school hackathons, and BBMP-led action themes will keep the momentum alive and measurable.

On 25 September 2025, a virtual session was held with educators to review Climate Club activities, discuss the Collective Climate Action Plan, and deliberate on the upcoming city-wide event. A powerful step for ClimateAction - Lawrence Schools (HSR & Koramangala) launched their Climate Action Clubs with BBMP & CMCA — celebrating pourakarmikas, unveiling student logos, and pledging for a cleaner, greener Bengaluru!
Bengaluru’s young climate champions explored urban biodiversity at Sankey Tank and created Greening Action Plans — from planting native trees to composting & rainwater harvesting!

On 18th August 2025, the BBMP Climate Action Cell hosted a Recognition Drive focusing on the four verticals – Water, Waste, Energy, and Greening. Special Commissioner Smt. Preeti Gehlot certified and honored 12 institutions for their commitment towards the climate action club initiative. The session featured experience sharing, learning exchanges, hands-on activities, and guidance for students on adopting small eco-friendly steps that create big impact.

Strengthening Climate Resilience, One Institution at a Time! On July 31st, the BBMP Climate Action Cell, in collaboration with DDPI (North), conducted an impactful orientation session with over 300 Pre-University College Principals. The session highlighted the complete journey of the Climate Action Clubs.

A coordination meeting chaired by Ms. Preeti Gehlot, IAS, Special Commissioner (FECCM), was held on 25 July 2025 at the BBMP Head Office. Representatives from DDPI, DDPU and working group organizations CMCA, Thicket Tales, and CEN came together to chart the next steps for the Bengaluru Climate Action Clubs (CAC) initiative in schools and colleges.

On July 5, the BBMP Climate Action Cell organized an orientation session for 45 educators, outlining the Climate Action Clubs structure, objectives, and actionable steps. Participants received hands-on guidance on audit procedures, digital tools, and community engagement strategies.
Who Can Enroll
Any school or college in Namma Bengaluru can be a part of the Climate Action Club program. This program invites all government, private, and aided educational institutions across the city to participate. Schools of all types—whether affiliated with the State Board, CBSE, ICSE, or other boards—are eligible, as well as colleges offering pre-university, undergraduate, diploma, technical, or vocational education. By joining the Climate Action Club, institutions gain access to resources to establish student-led clubs, engage in climate education, and participate in hands-on sustainability activities. This initiative provides a valuable opportunity to empower students to lead meaningful climate action and contribute actively to build a more sustainable and resilient Bengaluru.
Students gain real-world exposure to climate solutions, civic engagement, and green leadership — backed by certification, city recognition, and skill development. Institutions enhance their sustainability profile, align with NEP 2020 goals, and gain visibility as BBMP-recognized Green Campuses. Faculty receive toolkits, mentorship, and training to drive impactful climate education.
