About the Climate Action Clubs

The Climate Action Club is a student-driven initiative being introduced across schools and PU colleges in Bengaluru. It encourages young students to come together, deepen their understanding of climate issues, and actively participate in sustainability efforts. Through hands-on activities, learning projects, and leadership opportunities, students are empowered to take initiative and champion environmental responsibility within their schools and communities.

"Igniting Change at the Community Level" The Bengaluru’s Climate Action Clubs is a youth-powered action — bringing schools and colleges across the city together to take action . It empowers young changemakers through education and engagement. From schools to neighborhoods, the next generation is leading impactful, community-driven environmental action. The Climate Action Clubs will lead on-campus sustainability through structured, outcome-driven activities. Clubs will conduct climate literacy drives, manage green audits, execute waste and energy management projects, and drive community-focused environmental campaigns. Monthly challenges, inter-school hackathons, and BBMP-led action themes will keep the momentum alive and measurable.

Who Can Enroll

Any school or college in Namma Bengaluru can be a part of the Climate Action Club program. This program invites all government, private, and aided educational institutions across the city to participate. Schools of all types—whether affiliated with the State Board, CBSE, ICSE, or other boards—are eligible, as well as colleges offering pre-university, undergraduate, diploma, technical, or vocational education. By joining the Climate Action Club, institutions gain access to resources to establish student-led clubs, engage in climate education, and participate in hands-on sustainability activities. This initiative provides a valuable opportunity to empower students to lead meaningful climate action and contribute actively to build a more sustainable and resilient Bengaluru.

The Bengaluru Climate Action Clubs Program is a city-wide initiative designed to engage students in climate action, environmental conservation, and sustainability practices. It achieves this by establishing Climate Action Clubs in schools and colleges, aligning with the broader objectives of the Bengaluru Climate Action Plan. The program encourages young minds to actively contribute to developing local climate solutions.

Forming a BBMP Climate Action Clubs will:
  • 1) Provide students with hands-on learning experiences about climate change.
  • 2) Encourage environmental responsibility and sustainable practices within the school community.
  • 3) Connect students with experts, NGOs, and policymakers in climate action.
  • 4) Offer participation in city-wide green initiatives, competitions, and workshops.
  • 5) Improve the school`s sustainability ranking and visibility in Bengaluru’s climate efforts.

Climate Action Club is open to students, teachers, and administrators from all schools and colleges in Bengaluru. Schools and Colleges can nominate student leaders and faculty coordinators to be part of the club. Each climate action club has an Executive Committee of 10 members from different classes - For example, 2 students each from 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th grades. The President and Secretary will be chosen from the Executive Committee.

The Clubs will engage in:
  • 1) Awareness Campaigns: Climate literacy sessions, talks by experts.
  • 2) Action Projects: Tree plantation, waste management, energy conservation drives.
  • 3) Competitions & Challenges: Eco-hackathons, poster-making, and climate storytelling.
  • 4) Policy & Advocacy: Student representations in city climate dialogues.
